Work with Area Connect

Area Connect is a new concept in flexible transportation to serve smaller and more remote communities in Tasmania where mainstream public transport is not readily available or cannot meet the needs of the local community. 

The Area Connect program is a social enterprise of Community Transport Services Tasmania Inc which is a government funded, not for profit community organisation.  The Area Connect program supports people to overcome transportation barriers to get to work, training or education, allowing jobseekers to increase skills and to secure and sustain employment.

 

We are looking for motivated, enthusiastic and flexible people for the following role(s):

Our Area Connect Drivers are responsible for providing professional, high quality and safe passenger services in their local area to job seekers and members of the community participating in training education activities.

Reporting to the Local Coordinator, the Area Connect Driver will interact closely with passengers, community organisations, CTST and other Area Connect colleagues.

About the Role

Key responsibilities of the position are to:

  • Operate Area Connect and CTST vehicles as directed in a safe manner with specific consideration for the needs of passengers.
  • Always ensure secure stowage of all items during transit to ensure the safety of all passengers
  • Maintain a professional and appropriate relationship with passengers, employees and the general public at all times.
  • Ensure accurate completion of all pre-departure and other relevant documentation in accordance with procedures.
  • Interpret a “run sheet” and advise the Local Coordinator of any concerns
  • Follow established procedures for record keeping and reporting and collect fares when required.
  • Maintain the highest standards of cleanliness in respect to allocated vehicles, office spaces and equipment
  • Liaise with CTST State Office to ensure vehicles are always maintained in a safe operating condition, and immediately report any damage or malfunction of the vehicle
  • Attend meetings and participate in service delivery review, development, and continuous improvement of the service
  • Communicate referrals to Local Coordinator for “Wrap Around Supports”
  • Maintain accurate service data records

 About You

  • Demonstrated experience in the safe operation of passenger road vehicles of varying sizes, and confidence to use hand-held electronic devices and information technology
  • High standards of professionalism and commitment to delivering exceptional standards of customer service
  • Well-developed interpersonal with the ability to relate effectively with people at all levels
  • Manage customer expectations and competing demands to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously with limited support
  • Appropriate levels of physical fitness to undertake light to moderate manual handling tasks
  • Ability role model positive behaviours to participants, providing suggestions, advice, and open honest feedback where appropriate

We have a new opportunity for a Local Coordinator to join the Area Connect team in the Sorell area and surrounds. The successful candidate will be instrumental in continuing to shape and grow the Area Connect service provided to jobseekers.  This is a full-time, fixed term position until August 2023. 

The role is classified at Level 2 of the Social Community Home Care and Disability Services Award 2010 (SCHADS) with the benefit of salary sacrifice options.

About the Role

Key responsibilities of the position are to:

  • Build relationships with key stakeholders within the local community area and liaise with the local jobs hub to promote the Area Connect service
  • Arrange and maintain transport bookings
  • Operate Area Connect and CTST vehicles safely and with specific consideration for the needs of passengers
  • Maintain a professional and appropriate relationship with passengers, employees, and the general public at all times
  • Ensure that vehicles are always maintained in a safe and clean operating condition
  • Communicate Transport Case Management activities for referrals to external services for “wrap around supports” for jobseekers
  • Provide support to other drivers within the respective region
  • Work collaboratively with the Project Lead and Southern Regional Coordinator to communicate feedback / seek solutions to overcome any barriers to providing an optimal service
  • Role model positive behaviours to participants, providing suggestions, advice, and open and honest feedback where appropriate
  • Previous experience in passenger transportation would be advantageous but not essential

About You

We are looking for someone who is motivated and enthusiastic to promote and drive this service offering for jobseekers in the Sorell region.  The successful candidate will possess the following skills and attributes:

  • Must hold a current light-rigid driver’s licence
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage with stakeholders at all levels
  • Approachable, flexible, and committed to the delivery of exceptional standards of service to enhance the experience of jobseekers
  • Ability to work autonomously and organise work with limited supervision
  • A team player, with strong computer literacy and high levels of organisation
