Area Connect is a new concept in flexible transportation to serve smaller and more remote communities in Tasmania where mainstream public transport is not readily available or cannot meet the needs of the community. 

The Area Connect program is a social enterprise of Community Transport Services Tasmania Inc which is a government funded, not for profit community organisation.  The Area Connect Program will support people to overcome transportation barriers to get to work, training or education, allowing jobseekers to increase skills and to secure and sustain employment.

We are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic and flexible people for the following role(s):


Regional Coordinator

Based in  Brighton, an exciting opportunity exists for a Regional Coordinator to join the Area Connect team. The successful candidate will be instrumental in shaping the Area Connect service provided to jobseekers.  This full-time position, classified at Level 3 of the Social Community Home Care and Disability Services Award 2010 (SCHADS), and has the benefit of salary sacrifice options.

About the Role

Key responsibilities of the position are to:

  • Build relationships with key stakeholders within the community, and liaise with local hub and workforce development coordinators to promote the Area Connect service
  • Develop, coordinate, and deliver a transport service focused on employment support, training, and community access.
  • Coordinate Transport Case Management activities for referrals to external services for “Wrap Around Supports” for jobseekers
  • Provide leadership and support to the Local Coordinators and Drivers within the respective region, and at other regional hubs as required
  • Work collaboratively with the Project Manager and Project Lead to communicate feedback/ seek solutions to overcome any barriers to providing an optimal service
  • Coordinate transport brokerage for the respective region, and manage the Flexible Transport Fund to deploy services to support last-minute or short-term employment and training opportunities
  • Provide service data reporting to Project Manager and Project Lead in relation to targets and outputs
  • Operate Area Connect and CTST vehicles safely and with specific consideration for the needs of passengers
  • Ensure that vehicles are always maintained in a safe operating condition
  • Role model positive behaviours to participants, providing suggestions, advice, and open honest feedback where appropriate
  • Previous experience in passenger transportation would be advantageous but not essential.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage with stakeholders at all levels
  • Approachable, flexible and committed to the delivery of exceptional standards of service to enhance the experience of jobseekers
  • Ability to work autonomously and organise work with limited supervision.
  • A team player, with strong computer literacy and high levels of organisation.

The successful candidates will be instrumental in shaping the Area Connect service provided to jobseekers.  These positions are full-time, located in the George Town and Break O’Day Local Government areas and are classified at Level 2 of the Social Community Home Care and Disability Services Award 2010 (SCHADS) with the benefit of salary sacrifice options.

About the Role

Key responsibilities of the position are to:

  • Build relationships with key stakeholders within the local community area and liaise with local hub to promote the Area Connect service
  • Arrange and maintain transport bookings
  • Operate Area Connect and CTST vehicles safely and with specific consideration for the needs of passengers
  • Maintain a professional and appropriate relationship with passengers, employees’, and the general public at all times
  • Ensure that vehicles are always maintained in a safe operating condition
  • Communicate Transport Case Management activities for referrals to external services for “Wrap Around Supports” for jobseekers
  • Provide support to Drivers within the respective region
  • Work collaboratively with the Project Manager, Project Lead, and Regional Coordinator to communicate feedback/ seek solutions to overcome any barriers to providing an optimal service

Area Connect Driver

We have several State-wide opportunities for experienced Drivers to join the Area Connect team. The successful candidates will be responsible for the delivery of the Area Connect service and will provide to transport jobseekers and participants undertaking education and training activities.  The positions are casual are classified at Grade 3 of the Public Vehicle Transport Award 2020 (PVT), with the benefit of salary sacrifice options.

About the Role

Key responsibilities of the position are to:

  • Operate Area Connect and CTST vehicles of varying sizes safely, and with specific consideration for the needs of passengers
  • Confident in the use of hand-held electronic devices and information technology
  • Maintain a professional and appropriate relationship with passengers, employees’, and the general public at all times
  • Ensure that vehicles are always maintained in a safe operating condition, including the completion of pre-departure checks
  • Follow established procedures for record keeping and reporting and collect fares when required
  • Work collaboratively with the Regional and Local Coordinators to communicate feedback/ seek solutions to overcome any barriers to providing an optimal service
  • Role model positive behaviours to participants, providing suggestions, advice, and open honest feedback where appropriate
  • Previous experience in passenger transportation would be advantageous but not essential
